One of the most rewarding aspects of building a community is the discoveries we make about each other along the way. I find great joy in learning new things about people, communities, and organizations. My time as a teacher and director ingrained in me the importance of continuous growth and lifelong curiosity. I embrace any learning opportunities that come my way, knowing they will broaden my perspective and enrich my understanding of others and the world around me. A willingness to learn is the key to unlocking a deeper appreciation for the people and communities around us.
COLLABORATION IS KEY
Working in a variety of roles within Theatre spaces has instilled in me the belief that a team is most successful when every member feels heard, supported, and appreciated. I believe that through effective, respectful, and meaningful collaboration, discovery and growth are an inevitability. Actively pursuing opportunities to collaborate builds stronger connections between colleagues, community members, and leadership, leading to higher levels of trust and respect.
RESOURCEFULNESS AND CREATIVITY WILL TAKE YOU FAR
Establishing a Theatre program at a newly built school seemed like a daunting task at first. The traditions, norms, and success of the program were entirely in my hands, and I was responsible for laying the groundwork in a way that would enable the program to bloom. Thanks to a keen sense of resourcefulness and creativity, I was able to do so. In times of challenges and adversity, I found creative solutions that best utilized the resources I had. Whether it was building props and scenery out of old snack boxes from the school cafeteria, or using recycled materials to create intricate costumes, I embraced challenges knowing that I could rely on my creativity to get me through.
